A Potted History of Charles Green 1824

Charles Green 1824 has remained in the Green family for over 180 years. We are located in Birmingham’s famous jewellery quarter and have supplied jewellery to established and respected jewellers, and even royaltly.

The first Charles Green established his business in 1824 as a manufacturer of signet rings at Brearley Street West, Birmingham, before moving to Augusta Street, Birmingham, sometime after 1851. Charles Green junior, his son, was admitted to the partnership in 1863 and the firm was restyled to Charles Green & Son.

When Charles Green senior died the firm was continued as before by his sons Charles and George. Upon George Green leaving the partnership in 1876, his brother Charles remained in Birmingham as sole partner of Charles Green & Son until his death on the 3rd of January 1906. Thereafter Charles Green & Son was continued by two of his three sons, Lionel Augustus Green and Roland Green.

Simon Green, son of Lionel, and Martin, son of Roland, then followed their fathers in running the company. The company’s premises was hit by a German bomb in 1940 and all records for the previous years were lost. The company then moved a quarter of a mile to its exsisting building on Tenby Street.

Simon Green’s two sons, Tom Green and Adam Green, were next to run the company becoming the fifth generation of Greens to do so. As of 2008, Tom Green is now the chairman of Charles Green.
